| Last night the Chester County Public Safety Campus Fire Training held a lecture series program which was centered around the Spring Fire Season. The session held tonight was led by Instructor / Chief Ziegler from Wagontown. As we are well known as being a Brush Company in the county, we attended with over twenty members for this training program.
Topics covered in the training session were Fire Behavior, Fire Weather, Crew Safety, Operations on incidents of this nature as well as Lookouts, Communications, Escape routes and Safety zones.
The classroom portion was done in preparation for the outdoor activities that followed. Four separate skill stations were set up as a refresher of operations and provided an opportunity for us to run, check and operate our equipment as we would on a Wildland incident.
1st Skill station was a rapid deployment and progressive hose lay for Quick attack using Wagontown's Brush 35-1. This was accomplished by using the reel line and then extending the line as needed to attack the fire.
2nd Skill Station was a progressive hose lay with branch lines to support a larger expanding fire ground which allows for multiple lines to be run to extinguish a fire in multiple directions at one time. This is accomplished using a trunk line or 1 1/2 hose line and then using multiple "T's" and wyes branching the lines off.
3rd Skill Station was water supply, using Brush 35-2 "the Deuce" to supply Brush 1 and the TAC with water for the evolutions we were working above.
4th Skill Station was with Warden Touchton who reviewed the trailer and resources operated by the Brandywine Creek Forest Fire Crew that works collectively with Wagontown. Also reviewed was the resources the Bureau of Forestry can bring to an incident and also reviewed some special equipment carried on the trailer.
Members then wrapped up the equipment, refilled Brush 2 and returned to Wagontown shortly after 21:30 Hours.
Wagontown would like to thank the Chester County PSTC for hosting this informative and educational training session.
