| Tonight the members went to Flings Towing our local towing company’s lot for some vehicle rescue training. It seems lately that all of our accidents are involving overturned vehicles. Just the other night was an example of what we are seeing.
So tonight training was focused on the overturned vehicle, Part I was stabilization which included use of our Junkyard Dog struts and cribbing. Part II entailed gaining access into the patient followed by extrication procedures.
The vehicle we used was a van which presented some unique challenges all on its own, which crews had to work around to remove the doors and the sliding door.
Then we turned it up a notch and worked to do an inverted dash roll simulating the patient’s legs were trapped. Crews used a variety of techniques and worked through a host of ideas to finally make the roll possible.
Training sessions like these sharpen the crews for times when we are faced with adversity at accident scenes.
Wagontown would like to thank Fling's Towing for allowing us to work at their yard and assisting with positioning the vehicle to make this training possible. |
