Today members loaded up early in the AM to take the Brush Company along with the TAC to Christiana, why you might ask well it was to participate in the annual Kids fire camp. Each year the Christiana Fire Company holds their kids camp right before school starts as kind of an end of summer treat.

This year was no exception, Kids from all over the eastern Lancaster County and Western Chester county areas attended the event with around 100 kids participating. They kids were broken into age groups and provided with a full day of activities.

This is where Wagontown came into play, a few years back we were invited to assist and have become a staple in the event as well as the other mutual aid companies that were there.

This year kids got to see everything from how an ambulance crew functions to how someone is rescued from an vehicle using the Jaws of Life thanks to the Gap Fire Co. Some other neat items were the ability to do a firefighter challenge course, use a fire extinguisher on a fire. But wait there was more...

This year Wagontown was asked to do outdoor fire safety, we reviewed what to do when doing outside open burning along with the kids getting to extinguish a trash fire, they also got to use other hose lines and learn what each of our trucks do.

The kids were rotated through the stations on a schedule and included was lunch, where the staff provided a great lunch for the kids as well as staff.

Then after the events were over, they were gathered and watched various fire companies compete on the firefighter challenge course which was modified for the bigger guys, and then the awarding of door prizes and gifts took place. Each child was given an opportunity to put a ticket in for whatever they wanted to win.

Chief Sonny Reimold then thanked everyone who attended and helped make this event possible and make the day as great as it was.

Wagontown would like to thank Christiana Fire Company for allowing us to be part of this history making program and look forward to next year.
