On Wednesday night this week’s topic was Firefighting Foams, as a company we carry a good amount of foam with us on our apparatus and the types vary based upon intended uses.

The engine now carries 80 gallons of Class A foam that can be pumped through our foam system and applied in a number of ways. The Rescue carries Class B foam which is designed to handle flammable liquid fires. So knowing what each foam does and how it is applied was the topic of the night.

Having some newer members in attendance, the evening started with a brief classroom session on Class A and Class B Foams. Each were reviewed and discussed what types or classes of fires they handle along with delivery methods on each of the apparatus.

We then went out back of the firehouse and used some training foam, which is environmentally friendly to train with. Crews learned the rain down, roll on and banking methods for applying foam to an incident.

We also reviewed the various foam appliances carried and their uses, we even had a visit from Engineer McCoy and his Honey Brook Engine which was used to shuttle water for the exercise.

The evening concluded with cleaning all of the foam equipment and then washing all of the apparatus.
