On Tuesday just shortly after lunch time at 12:21 hours the company along with Ambulance 144 was dispatched to the intersection of Cedar Knoll Rd & Kaolin Rd in West Caln Township for an accident involving a truck. As the Rescue and Ambulance were responding the call was upgraded to a Hazmat response as the truck was identified as a propane truck. This upgrade brought the Chester County Hazmat team 15 to the scene to assist.

Rescue 35 and Ambulance 144 arrived and found the truck overturned into a field on the Hibernia Park property at the base of the intersection. The EMS crews tended to the injured driver while the Rescue crew assessed the scene. Asst. Chief Patton assumed the Hibernia Command and requested Engine 33-5 for water supply should they need it.

As additional units arrived, Engine 35, Tac 35 and the Hazmat team a survey of the truck was made and found a small leak in the plumbing at the pump in the rear of the truck. Crews worked and secured the leak and continued to monitor the situation for release of propane.

The engine crew maintained a protection line for those working in the area of the truck. Once the leak was secured crews waited for the recovery process to begin righting the truck and towing it away.

Flings Towing brought their new Rotator wrecker down and their other trucks and began to move the vehicle. Once again crews were manning the protection line and stood ready until this process was complete. Once upright and on the wrecker crews began to break down and the incident was cleared at 16:00 hours with all companies returning.

Great job by all on the scene preventing a major incident from occurring, also thank you to Lancaster County 52 (Christiana) for covering our local while we handled this incident.
