Today members loaded up early in the AM to take the Brush Company along with the TAC to Christiana, why you might ask well it was to participate in the annual Kids fire camp. Each year the Christiana Fire Company holds their kids camp right before school starts as kind of an end of summer treat.

This year was no exception, Kids from all over the eastern Lancaster County and Western Chester county areas attended the event with around 150 kids participating. They kids were broken into age groups and provided with a full day of activities.

This is where Wagontown came into play, a few years back we were invited to assist and have become a staple in the event as well as the other mutual aid companies that were there.

This year kids got to see everything from how an ambulance crew functions to how someone is rescued from an elevation using a ladder truck to putting out fires. Some other neat items were the ability to force open a door, throw a water rescue bag and learn how water rescues take place to fire scene rehab and treatment. But wait there was more... The kids had a chance to extinguish fires with various methods, open and cut cars with hydraulic tools under the watchful eyes of the firefighters and what the Hazmat team does.

They got to crawl through a maze house provided by Personal Protective Equipment Specialists which allowed the kids to see what it was like crawling into some of the places we do.

Then there was the foam station where they learned what foam was used for and how it was applied. They also learned about brush and woods fires and with the fires in the west there were plenty of questions on this topic.

The kids were rotated through the stations on a schedule and included was lunch, where the staff provided a great lunch for the kids as well as staff.

Then after the events were over, they were gathered in the engine room where West Bradford put on a Flashover demo and then the awarding of door prizes and gifts took place. Each child was given an opportunity to put a ticket in for whatever they wanted to win.

Chief Sonny Reimold then thanked everyone who attended and helped make this event possible and make the day as great as it was.

Wagontown would like to thank Christiana Fire Company for allowing us to be part of this history making program and look forward to next year.
