Wagontown Places new Air Packs in service
By: Asst. Ziegler
On February 13th 2008 Jay Abel from the
Firestore.com delivered fifteen new MSA
Firehawk 30 minute 2007 compliant SCBA.
The SCBA were the first items delivered to us, from the
Assistance to Firefighters Grant. The new
packs are CBRN (Chemical,Biological,Radiological
and Nuclear) compliant. Each air pack is
equipped with 50' of Kevlar bail out line
which is a self contained emergency escape
system a firefighter can use to rappel to
safety from a window should they become
trapped or conditions deteriorate to point
they need to escape. Each air pack can also
double as a harness that can be used to
raise or lower a firefighter if they become
injured or trapped.
After the initial training on the systems
was complete they were placed in service on
the February 21st. The grant also provided
19 new sets of gear, 23 helmets and new
boots for our active crew.
