The Wagontown Volunteer Fire Company was
established in 1946 and built its first single
bay fire station to house its first pumper in
1947. The existing station was constructed based
on the size of equipment during this time
period. The original station was replaced in
1954 with a new station built with room for
additional equipment as the community grew. The
fire company grew into a fire and rescue company
over the past 50 years, to keep up with the
needs of the community. The fire hall was built
to not only house the fire equipment, but as a
meeting hall, banquet hall, and a fund raising
facility.
According to the Chester County Planning
Commission
median estimation puts West Caln
Township at 10,340 residents and West Brandywine
Township at 11,710 residents by 2025. With this
increase in population, infrastructure must also
grow to meet the need.
Currently there are over 1000 single-family
homes, townhouses and apartments planned and
under construction within the township. This
type of growth will continue and we must be
prepared to meet the needs of the growing
community.
A new facility will be constructed in the spring
of 2005 on the existing 7.749 acre site that
will allow the fire company to expand its
service to the community by providing the
necessary space needed to house modern equipment
that will not fit in the existing
facility. The
new facility will house the existing apparatus
in a five equipment bay area that will improve
emergency egress to route 340 improving response
times to emergencies. The new facility will also
be ADA accessible, our current facility is not.
The new facility will consist of an 18,204 sq
foot pre-engineered steel frame structure.
This facility will allow the company to increase
its banquet hall revenue with a larger more
modern banquet facility. The banquet facility
also doubles as a Bingo hall, the existing Bingo
revenues are limited due to the number of seats
available. The new facility will have separate
office space for the Executive board and Fire
Line officers, as well as a training and meeting
room.
