With the upcoming winter storm approaching Wagontown Fire Company would like to pass on some helpful tips. These might help you weather the storm a little better and know that we are here to respond to any incident that may occur.

Here are some helpful ideas to deal with the storm.

• Keep posted on weather conditions. Listen to local media sources
• Prepare for isolation at home. Keep an emergency kit on hand.
• Check with neighbors and relatives who may need extra assistance.
• Prevent wood/oil-burning stoves, fireplaces, or electric heaters from overheating and becoming fire hazards. Fill all liquid fuel heating devices outside buildings.
• Stay indoors. Overexertion from activities such as snow shoveling is a major cause of winter storm deaths.
• Dress in warm layers.
• Travel only if necessary, and then only in daylight on major roads.
• Do not travel alone and let someone know your schedule and destination.
• Sign up for notifications at ReadyChesco.org
• Follow Wagontown Fire Company and Chester County Department of Emergency Services on Facebook/Twitter.

We again remind you, if your electric power goes out, do not call 9-1-1. Call your utility company – PECO 1-800-841-4141; PPL 1-800-342-5775; Met-Ed 1-888-544-4877

Also the West Brandywine Township will have a warming center open should power outages become a problem, these sites are as follows:

1) West Brandywine Township Building
198 Lafayette Road
Coatesville, PA 19320

There will be one (1) designated warming/refuge site with in West Brandywine Township. The purpose of these are for residents that may be with out power, to get to a site, have the ability to charge a cell phone, get warm and make arrangements with family or loved ones for over night housing if needed.

Unfortunately both of these site are NOT pet friendly. And to emphasize, these sites are not designed for over night accommodations. Just as a means to get out of the weather, charge a device if needed and make arrangements.
