On November 1st the company travelled to the training center for a 2 part class, the first part was a classroom session on sprinklers and standpipe operations. The course was a pilot class designed for the basic standpipe operations. In the event of a fire in a building equipped with these appliances the firefighter would be able to make a connection to the system and supply it along with running handlines off the system.

This Wednesday night was the practical portion in which members connected to the Fire Department Connection, supplied the system and ran operations off of a standpipe system. Members ran the initial attack line as well as back up lines off the system and attacked the live fire evolutions in the drill tower at the training center. The ability to do this not only introduced the members to standpipes which are something we don't have a lot of, however some buildings are equipped in our first due. But this also allowed for reinforcing of hoseline management, fire attack and ventilation procedures which never hurt to practice.

The Chester County Training Facility allows for these types of trainings that companies would otherwise have to simulate or go elsewhere for, this training provided a number of learning points while still re-enforcing the basics constantly building on what we already know.

Wagontown would like to thank the instructors and the Public Safety Training Center for this great pilot course and look forward to many more trainings at the center.
