Member/Family Appreciation Day a HUGE HIT AGAIN!

On Sunday, September 10th, members of the company took the day and celebrated Member/Family Appreciation Day. This was the annual event hosted by the fire company for its members and their families. With today's fire service and its' daily battle to recruit and retain volunteers events like these are a necessity as a way to thank its' members and their families for the hours of sacrifice they endure during the year.

The event was held in conjunction with the Westwood Fire Company Appreciation Day at Knoebels Amusement Park, located approximately 2 hours north of Wagontown, in Elysburg, Pennsylvania. Knoebels is the "United States Largest Free Admission Amusement Park", meaning there is no charge for parking or for entry into the park; quite simply you pay for what you do. Each ride is individually priced and tickets were purchased and redeemed for each ride.

There were also "pay one price/ride all day" wristbands available for members who were big amusement ride enthusiasts; this allowed them to ride unlimited, all-day without having to deal with tickets. Wagontown members and their families were issued either wristbands or tickets depending on their riding preference.

At 3PM a picnic style lunch was served by the park staff in a reserved pavilion for the Westwood and Wagontown group consisting of Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, BBQ Chicken, beans and side salads, iced tea and lemonade. During the meal time members from each organization took time to introduce spouses and children and socialize with each other. After lunch, members were free to move about the park with their families and enjoy the rides, shows, and attractions offered at Knoebels.

The members of the Wagontown Fire Company would like to thank President John Sly and the entire Westwood Board of Directors for allowing our organization to join in this very important and successful event. Both of our organizations realize our members, and their supporting families, are our biggest asset. An event such as these reinforces leadership’s appreciation for all they do in supporting our mission of providing professional services to our residents from a volunteer level.
