Change your Clock, Change your batteries - Tonight

By Wagontown Fire Co. Fire Prevention Division
March 11, 2017

This Sunday March 12th, 2017 when you change your clocks ahead, be responsible and change your smoke detector batteries. Smoke alarms can mean the difference between life and death in a fire. Working smoke alarms cut the chance of dying in a fire in half. Smoke alarms detect and alert people to fire in its early stages, giving them the time needed to escape safety.

The National Fire Protection Association reports that 71% of smoke alarms which failed to operate had missing, disconnected or dead batteries. This reinforces how important it is to take this time each year to check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Energizer would like to remind you of the importance of batteries not only in smoke alarms, but also the full range of devices that help keep us safe, secure and comfortable in our homes.

Home safety and security has evolved beyond smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Many families rely on other home devices connected to the Internet or their smartphones, also known as the Internet of Things, to enhance safety and security.

Every family should have a fire safety plan to ensure each family member is prepared should an emergency occur. It’s never too late to create your plan!

Remember should you need smoke detectors please stop by and see us!
