By Wagontown Training Division W5
August 12, 2015

Tonight just prior to training, Wagontown ran a box with Westwood on Highland Dr in Valley for the reported house fire. Engine and the Chief arrived to find smoke in the basement that was traced back to an electrical cord issue.

So once back at the Station, members loaded up on the apparatus for a trip to the county’s largest park Hibernia Park to do some training. Tonight's topic was to set up for the removal of an injured subject from one of the parks trails. Crews used the Rim trail off Wagontown Rd for tonight’s exercise, this allowed for realistic training with the ability to set up the required ropes and riggings systems to carry out the mission of removing the victim from a hillside or below grade environment.

Crews used the Z-Rig to haul the victim up and then set up a lowering system to lower the basket back down to the roadway. All of the exercises was done on the trail for safety reasons and allowed for the ability to make sure all was properly set up.

This training follows what Instructor Rohrer went over and reviewed with us in a previous training session. These skills are important to keep current on as with the vast amount of trails and remote areas in our district we may be called upon to use these skills.

Units: Engine, Rescue, Brush-1, Utility and Command 35
