Chester County Half Marathon comes to West Caln

May 17, 2015

Today the Chester County Half Marathon and Memorial 5k run came to West Caln Township, PA. Today’s event is dedicated to the bright and beautiful spirit of Jacinda Miller. Beloved mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, cousin, friend, teacher, mentor, and above all-INSPIRATION-to those that knew her. Jacinda was an avid runner, in which this race was dedicated too...

The morning kicked off with the crews, Fire Police and others gathering at Station 35 at 06:30 for instructions and briefing. From there the Fire Police and crews of the Engine, Command Units and Brush and Squad set out to ensure the safety of all those who participated in this event. The race started at the Coatesville Country Club and made it's way through the countryside through Hibernia Park up to Telegraph Road and then back to the Country Club via Rt. 340 to Reservoir Rd.

The event Coordinators Chief Curt Martinez and Jessica Rigo organized the event to raise money for the Children of Jacinda, the planning and organization was outstanding for this great cause. The events kicked off with the Half Marathon starting at 07:45 and the 5K kicking off shortly thereafter.

Fire Police and units controlled traffic at the major intersections and the side streets to make sure the runners could proceed safely through the course. The last runner of each event was followed by either West Caln PD or a fire or EMS unit to keep accountability of the location of the race and provide safety for the runners.

East Brandywine Fire Company joined us as they provided an EMS/Rest station at the Birch Run Park on N. Sandy Hill Road.

The race finished at just before noon with the last runner completing the course, and all runners crossed the finish line.

Wagontown would like to thank the Westwood, Thorndale, Modena, Honey Brook, Keystone Valley, Lionville and Malvern Fire Police for their assistance with this race, their help made the monumental task of controlling traffic look very easy. We would also like to thank all of those who participated for this very great cause today.

Units: Station 35

Mutual Aid: West Caln PD, 44, 38, 37, 33, 08, 47 & 4 Fire Police and East Brandywine Fire Co.
