Last night just after 10 pm the Company was requested for full company to assist the Modena Fire Co. (37) on a fluff pile fire at the Coatesville Scrap Iron. The plant is located in the 1000 block of South First Ave. in South Coatesville Boro.

The plant is a scrap plant that supports the ArcelorMittal steel mill that is located adjacent to the facility. The fire involved material that was shredded to remove the metal for processing to be used to make steel.

The company responded and took on dual roles as the Engine entered the steel mill property and assisted Engine 75 with flowing water on the back side of the pile and supplying Engine 37-2 with water from the mill water system.

Crews on the back side used master stream devices to extinguish the fire running the pile, members then assisted with setting up the water supply to the scene and various others tasks.

Rescue 35 set up a fill site on First Ave. to fill tankers that were being used in the yard to extinguish the fire on that side of the plant.

35 units cleared the scene at 01:03 hours.

Then as units were clearing we were given an accident in the 100 block of Hibernia Road at 01:10 hours in which the company responded along with Engine 33-5 (Honey Brook) that was on standby for us.

Chief 35 and Engine 35 responded and found 1 heavily damaged vehicle that had struck a tree with everyone out. Crews then secured the hazards and assisted Ambulance 144 with the patient that was loaded and transported to a local hospital after meeting Medic 93 enroute to the hospital.

Crews then assisted the police department and cleared the scene just after 02:30 hours.

Units: Engine 35, Rescue 35, Command 35 and Utility 35

Mutual Aid: 37, 44, 41, 49, 08, 33 and West Brandywine PD
